  • Description: Offers an alternative to confinement where low risk offenders perform eight to ten hours of work in-lieu of one day of confinement in jail. The sentences may not be over 365 days. Participants are assigned to work at one of thirty contracted public agency work sites within Alameda County.

  • Eligibility: You must be referred to the program by the sentencing court. Out of county cases are accepted on a case by case basis.
    Defendants must have a referral from the sentencing court in order to apply to SWAP.
    Applicants will be screened by SWAP personnel to determine eligibility for the program.
    SWAP will accept most misdemeanor cases.
    Misdemeanor cases involving sex, drugs or violence will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
    SWAP will accept sentences up to 365 days.
    SWAP will not accept felony cases or PC 290 registrants.
