The Senior Companion Program pairs seniors with other seniors for companionship through day centers, residential institutions, hospitals and senior service agencies.
The Foster Grandparent Program matches seniors with children with special needs at child development centers, schools, hospitals, clinics, and other social service agencies.
For both programs, participating low-income seniors receive a stipend, transportation reimbursements, meals, annual physical examinations and insurance coverage for accidents and personal liabilities. A forty-hour training and monthly in-service are required of participants. The monthly stipend is not considered taxable income and does not affect the receipt of other benefits. Participants agree to serve 20 hours per week.
