YOUTH IN WILDERNESS, VENTANA WILDERNESS ALLIANCE

Description: The mission of YiW is to educate, motivate, and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards and advocates. We accomplish this mission by offering introductory wilderness immersion opportunities for local young people. Through overnight backpacking trips and day hikes in the Ventana and Silver Peak Wildernesses (native lands of the Rumsen, Esselen and Salinan people), participants are welcomed to nature in a safe, fun and inclusive way. All backpacking trips are free for participants -essential gear, food, and trip leadership is provided. We collaborate with Community Partners who assist in two essential areas: participant recruitment and transportation for their group.

Eligibility: Eligible for everyone, however, we prioritize offering services to young people from underserved communities of color.
