  • Description: HOLIDAY TREE RECYCLINGHoliday trees can be disposed of in two easy ways. All trees must be free of all tinsel, snow flocking, decorations, and metal stands. If you subscribe to green waste service, you can cut up your tree into 3-foot sections and place it in your cart for curbside pickup. Please make sure the lid closes all the way. Take Trees to Designated WM Recycling sites: Waste management will be providing Free Holiday/Christmas Tree Recycling for Nevada County residents. Paper with foil, glitter or plastic coating can't be recycled. *Wine or Cider BottlesYes - Please but all glass bottles and jars in your single-stream cart. *Broken OrnamentsNo - The glass used in glass ornaments is too delicate to capture. Plastic ornaments are generally made from mixed materials that can't be captured through this system. *GarlandNo - Garland and other rope-like items get wrapped around the moving parts of the sorting equipment and can cause it to break. * Cardboard BoxesYes - Please break down boxes to save room. Boxes must be inside your cart to be collected as recycling. * Mail Order BoxesYes - Please break down boxes to save room. Boxes must be inside your cart to be collected as recycling. *Padded Shipping Envelopes, Bubble Wrap, and Packaging Air BagsNo - These items are mixed material and can't be recycled through single stream . (Some have recycling locations or instructions printed on them.) *Greeting CardsYes & No - Plain cards without foil or embellishments can be recycled. Cards with foil, glitter, electronics or other items cannot be recycled through single stream. Put in the trash and if cards with electronics have batteries, remove those first. *Cooking Oil BottlesYes - Make sure all oil is emptied. No need to wash it out. Place the cap on the bottle before placing in your cart. *Polystyrene (Styrofoam) PackagingNo - Packing material breaks apart during the sorting process and can't be captured. (Paper & cardboard packing can be recycled through single-stream) *Christmas LightsNo - Christmas lights cannot be recycled through single-stream. In addition, they wrap around sorting equipment, breaking it and causing downtime. Place in the trash. *Snow/Cable ChainsNo - These can snag on moving parts in the system and injure workers. Metal chains can be recycled at McCourtney Road Transfer Station. Cable chains go in the trash. *Reddi Whip / Whipped Cream Cans and Cooking Spray CansNo - These items are pressurized, are likely to have residue inside and are made from mixed material. Place in the trash. *P
