• Description: The emphasis of hospice care is on pain control and symptom management, and emotional support, enabling patients to live out their lives with dignity and comfort, surrounded by the people and things they love. Because end-of-life care presents a tremendous emotional and physical burden on family and friends, hospice fills the gaps to allow those close to the patient to worry less about the details of care and more about the important emotional and spiritual needs of the patient and family. Hospice care is provided in the home, home-like setting, or skilled nursing facility and is staffed by a medical director, chaplain, nurses and aides, medical social workers, bereavement coordinator, and a team of trained volunteers.
