  • Description: WELLSLow or Dry WellsNevada County and California are in a drought period. Groundwater is lowest at the end of summer, and winter rains typically improve low producing wells. In late summer/early autumn, many private wells experience a drop in production. This can be reflected by local well drillers being booked out several months. Some additional options to possibly resolve low or dry well issues may be: Adding on site water storage. Please contact the Nevada County Building department at BuildingDept@nevadacountyca.gov for any permitting requirements. If local well drillers are booked, consider using a well driller that is out of the area (for example from Placer, Yuba, or Sacramento counties). They will need to have a C-57 license and contact Environmental Health at Env.Health@nevadacountyca.gov for permitting requirements. Contact the Rural Community Assistance Corporation Individual Well Program - http://www.rcac.org/environmental/individual-well-program/ Household Water Well & Septic System Loan/Grant Programs - https://www.rcac.org/lending-2/household-water-well-septic-loans/ People will need to research these and possibly other options to see what is the best fit for their needs and budget. The State of California is tracking dry wells.
