Description: NAMI Humboldt is a support group which also provides education and advocacy. The free meetings, open to everyone. They are held at the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District Office at 7th and J Street in Eureka. The monthly meeting is held on the 1st Thursday of the month at 7-9 P.M. Meetings alternate between Caring and Sharing support groups and a presentation by a speaker on a topic of interest. An additional support group is held 3rd Thurday 7-9, same location. Meetings are also held in Garberville on the 4th Thursday of the month, 5:30 to 7:30, Hospice House, 464 Maple Ln. The small, warm, informal, and confidential support groups focus on the needs of family members and friends of people with mental illness although everyone is welcome to attend. NAMI Humboldt also conducts community education about brain disorders, and advocates for a social system that meets the needs of people with mental illness. NAMI Humboldt is the local affiliate of the California Alliance for the Mentally Ill and the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill.
