Description: Provides a monthly tax-free payment to Veterans who got sick or injured while serving in the military and to Veterans whose service made an existing condition worse. Benefits can be provided for physical conditions and mental health conditions that developed before, during, or after service.

Eligibility: - Veterans: 18 years and older; Must have served on active duty, active duty for training, or inactive duty training; Must have a disability rating for the service-connected condition; One of the following must also be true: must have become sick or injured while serving in the military and can link the condition to the illness or injury (called an in-service disability claim), had an illness or injury before joining the military and serving made it worse (called a preservice disability claim), or must have a disability-related to active-duty service that did not appear until after service ended (called a postservice disability claim)
Requirements: DD214 or other separation documents, Service treatment records, Any medical evidence related to the illness or injury (such as doctor's reports, X-rays, and medical test results)
