Description: A state-sponsored program that provides affordable automobile liability insurance to eligible drivers who demonstrate financial need and meet other program qualification requirements. The program is administered by the California Automobile Assigned Risk Plan (CAARP).Take the Eligibility Questionnaire.
Eligibility: Applicant must:- Be a California resident- Have a valid driver's license- Have a vehicle valued at $25,000 or less- Meet income eligibility guidelines (under 250% of the Federal Poverty Line)- Be at least 16 years old- Have a good driving record or be a new driverIncome eligibility requirements per household (guidelines effective as of January 17, 2024):- 1 person - $37,650- 2 people - $51,100- 3 people - $64,550- 4 people - $78,000- 5 people - $91,450- 6 people - $104,900- 7 people - $118,350- 8 people - $131,800Add $13,450 for each additional person.
Requirements: Proof of income and proof of vehicle ownership. Any one of the following documents can be accepted as proof of household income:- CalFresh- CalWorks- California LifeLine- LIHEAP- Medi-Cal/Medicaid- State of California Employment Development Department (EDD) Debit Card or benefit letters- SSI- Social Security or Pension- Federal or state income tax returns- W-2- 1099 Form- Payroll StubIn instances when an applicant is unable to provide documentation required to prove income eligibility, the Certification of Income Eligibility form can be used.
