Description: Free tax preparation assistance by IRS-trained volunteers to prepare 2024 income tax returns for individuals and working families at VITA sites with a total earned an annual income of $67,000 or less. The VITA program provides free electronic filing (e-file). The coalition also helps educate the public on the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The tax deadline is Tuesday, April 15th, 2025.To schedule tax appointments, select the desired location under "Site offering Programs" and call the Site Phone. Eligibility: No age restrictions. Total household income for 2024 must be $67,000 or less. Drop-off appointments require an active email address (returns will be reviewed and signed online). Filer MUST attend appointment (a designated Power of Attorney may attend on behalf of the filer, if authorized prior to tax preparation). VITA sites cannot prepare:- Married filing separately.- Clergy.- Income from rental property.- Cancellation of debt (other than non-business credit card debt).- Bankruptcy.- Self-employment with expenses of more than $35,000 or inventory. App-based work (e.g., driving for Uber, Doordash, shopping for InstaCart) is classified as contract work/self-employment.- Military personnel and spouses.Additional restrictions:- Out-of-state filings: Online only.- Registered domestic partners: Online and Drop-off only.- Prior tax years: Online or dial 2-1-1 or call specific site for more information.- Amendments: Online or dial 2-1-1 or call specific site for more information.- Health savings account: Online and Drop-off only.
Requirements: - Government-Issued Photo Identification for ALL Tax Filers:(1) Social security card for each person on the return OR (2) Any document issued by the Social Security Administration (showing SS number) for everyone on the return- A copy of 2023 tax return (if you have one)- All wage and other income documents received from your employer or benefits provider (W2's, 1099, etc.) - If married filing jointly, your spouse must attend the appointment. A spouse may not be present only if (1) married filing jointly and (2) the spouse present at the appointment has a Power of Attorney that has been completed/filed prior (not after the fact) to tax preparation.Additional documents, if applicable:- Proof of your bank account number and routing number to use for direct deposit of your refund (blank/void check works)- If purchasing health insurance through Covered California, bring Form 1095-A (received from Covered California)- If claiming Child/Dependent Care Credit, the childcare provider's Tax ID number (EIN or SSN), name, address and phone number are required. Dependent adults/children do not need to attend the appointment.- If itemizing, documents for expenses such as mortgage interest statement (Form 1098), property tax bill, charitable contributions, medical expenses, Vehicle Registration bill from DMV, documentation of any sales taxes paid on big items (car, boat, etc.)Social Security Card Replacement: If caller needs replacement cards, refer to the United States Social Security Administration - Card Center (enter through building's rear entrance).
