Description: CalFresh (formerly known as food stamps) is a food assistance program designed to help households purchase groceries. Eligible households receive an EBT debit card that can be used to purchase food at the grocery store and participating farmer’s markets. The amount of benefits a household receives is dependent on the household’s countable income and monthly expenses, such as housing and utilities. Feeding San Diego’s trained CalFresh specialists can help you submit a CalFresh application and ensure the application is processed at the county from start to finish.
Eligibility: A CalFresh household is defined as a group of people who live together AND also buy/prepare food together. To be eligible for CalFresh, at least one person in the household must be a U.S. Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, or Approved Refugee or Asylee; and the total household income must be below the income threshold for the household size.
