Provides minimum wage gardening work to people with mental health challenges. Farms are supported by private foundations and product sales. Employs over 50 people each year: growing vegetables, flowers, seedlings, and landscape plants. Employees work varying shifts, from 3-20, hours per week. Services include:
Training in the agricultural and horticultural fields.
Job-skills training in a supervised environment among peers.
Opportunities for job advancement and increased responsibility.
Enhanced physical, mental and social health through the use of therapeutic horticulture.
An opportunity to meet with the on-site vocational specialist. Who can help individuals gain competitive employment
Daily contact with co-workers and an on-site mental health worker. To discuss work, socialization, or other areas of interest. As well as concern to the individual.
Eligibility: Must be an individual with mental health challenges. Potential employees are often referred through the Santa Barbara Department of Behavioral Wellness or another agency.
