  • Description: Serves as the legally appointed conservator for persons deemed incapable of caring for themselves. Persons appointed a conservator typically are vulnerable adults who are at risk or have been a victim of abuse or neglect. Most clients suffer from dementia, traumatic brain injury, or other cognitive impairments. Established only as a last resort, The Court can appoint a Public Guardian to the conservatee. This can be for the person only, the estate only, or both. Depending on the conservatee's capacities, the Public Guardian may manage the following aspects of the conservatee's life:
    • Finances
    • Investment funds
    • Collecting income and paying debts
    • Medical decisions
    • Ensuring access to proper food, clothing, shelter and health care

Public Guardians are appointed as conservator when the individual has no relatives or appropriate person to fulfill this role.
