  • Description:

    Provides temporary cash assistance and support services for income eligible families with children. Issues Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards with a monthly credit. Requires eligible adult recipients to participate in welfare-to-work employment services. Offers work preparedness, job development training, and support to address barriers to employment. Assistance available up to 60 months as families are expected to reach self-sufficiency. CalWORKs recipients are automatically eligible for Medi-Cal and may qualify for CalFresh. CalWORKs is the state version of Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF).


    Cal-LEARN - Assists pregnant/parenting teens attend and graduate from high school, or its equivalent. Provides supportive services and financial bonuses for success in school. Supportive services include transportation, childcare, school-related expenses, and referrals to other agencies.


    Fresh Success - Provides financial and academic support to students enrolled at Gavilan Community College. Provides the following services:

    • Utility and rental assistance
    • Parking permit and transportation assistance
    • Textbook vouchers
    • Academic counseling
    • Job readiness and workshops
