Description: A probate conservatorship of a person may be established for those found unable to properly provide for their personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter. A probate conservator of estate may be established for those who are substantially unable to manage their own financial resources or resist fraud or undue influence.
Hours: Monday through Friday 8 am - noon; 1 - 5 pm
Eligibility: Must be Yolo County residents.Must have a deficit of mental functioning which renders them unable to make and communicate decisions or to understand and appreciate the consequences of those decisions regarding their food, clothing, shelter, or medical decisions. And/or due to the deficit of mental functioning they must be substantially unable to manage their own financial resources and/or substantially unable to resist fraud or undue influence. Probate conservatorship is only available when there are no other reasonable alternatives to conservatorship.
Requirements: Referrals for Probate conservatorship must be submitted on a Public Guardian Probate Referral form. If the physical protection of the proposed conservatee or their assets are at risk, a referral should be made to Yolo County Adult Protective Services first, and APS will determine if there are any reasonable alternatives to conservatorship. If needed, APS will submit a Probate Conservatorship Referral.
