  • Description: Provides individual and small group instruction for students needing academic assistance. Classes address difficulties in mathematical concepts, reading comprehension, writing skills and computer basics. Each unit requires 30 hours attendance during the semester. Study groups and peer tutoring may also be available in the LIGHT Center.Rules Noise: This is a quiet place to study. Please keep noise to a minimum. Food: No food or drinks are allowed. Cell Phones: Please silence your cell phone upon entering the LIGHT Center. If you need to use your phone please step outside. Chemical Sensitivities: Many people have chemical sensitivities. Please be courteous of others. Excessive odors such as perfume, tobacco, and marijuana, may result in your being asked to leave. Children: No children allowed in the LIGHT Center. Unattended Books: Any books or backpacks left unattended or to hold a space will be removed. The LIGHT Center is not responsible for any personal items such as backpacks, coats, etc. Lost and Found: All items in the LIGHT Center will be placed in our Lost and Found. Please ask a staff member. Please save all your documents and files to your own USB flash drive. The LIGHT Center can not be held responsible for files left on the computer.LIGHT Center ClassesGuidance 143 - Individualized Assessment and Academic PlanningAfter having met with a DSPS adviser or counselor, students will be screened and assessed to determine if they are eligible for DSPS services based on a learning disability. This process gives the students a clear understanding of their academic strengths and weaknesses and suggests strategies to enhance academic success. Guidance 145 - Applied Study Skills and StrategiesThere are several sections of Guidance 145 that can provide one on one and small group instruction for your academic classes. Attendance is based on each student's individual schedule and appointments designed to meet each students' needs. Students can enroll in sections ranging from 1 - 4 units. Guidance 146 - Applied Study Skills and Strategies for EnglishGuidance 146 provides one on one and small group instruction for your English classes. Attendance is based on each student's individual schedule and appointments designed to meet each students' needs. Students can enroll in sections ranging from 1 - 4 units. Guidance 147 - Applied Study Skills and Strategies for MathGuidance 147 provides one on one and small group instruction for your math classes. Attendance is based on each student's individual schedule and appointments designed to meet each students' needs. Students can enroll in sections ranging from 1 - 4 units.
