Description: Supplies qualified drivers with vanpool vehicles to drive themselves and others to work or school. Individuals pay for their rides. CalVans pays for gas, maintenance, repairs, and a $10 million insurance policy.
Eligibility: Anyone who wants to share a ride with others can join a vanpool as a rider. To qualify to be a driver for a vanpool, one should:- Be at least twenty-one years of age. - Have a valid Class C license.- Have five or more years of licensed driving experience during which there were no hit-and-runs, reckless driving, or driving under the influence. - Have a clean DMV driving record with fewer than 2 DMV points.- Wash and maintain the van.- Buy gasoline for the van with the credit card provided by CalVans.- Drive as a volunteer; driving is not a paid position.
Requirements: For a rider: sign a Driver and Rider Agreement (optional).For a driver: Valid US Driver's License. To drive a vehicle bigger than an 8-passenger van, an unexpired Class B Physical exam is required. If low-income, the applicant may qualify for a free exam.
